Nazarovo GRES (State District Power Station)

Established electric power is 1210 MW.
Established thermal power is 870 Gcal/h.

Established on 9 November, 1961. This is the commissioning date of the first power generating unit. Construction of a new heat power station in Nazarovo began in 1955. In May, 1959, the Central Committee of the Young Communist League of the Soviet Union (a national public organization for young people aged 14 – 29) declared Nazarovo GRES a construction site of national importance – this status gave the Young Communist League the right to call upon any young volunteer from all over the Soviet Union to participate in the construction, which was a special honour and responsibility. Nazarovo GRES was built close to major deposits of Kansk and Achinsk power station coal and was planned as one of the leading companies in the thermal power engineering sector in Krasnoyarsk Region. Its planned capacity was 1400 MW. Though the station has never reached this performance, achieving the power of 1210 MW, today it remains one of the largest thermal power stations in Siberia.

Nazarovo GRES is one of the major electric power suppliers at the market. Nazarovo GRES is at the intersection of backbone electric power networks. A 500 KW power line transmitting electric power to Krasnoyarsk and other cities in the region, such as Achinsk, Uzhur, Lesosibirsk, and to neighbouring regions –Kuzbass, Khakass Republic and Tyva Republic, passes through the area of the station. Apart from that, the station supplies heat to companies in the industrial and agricultural sector, human service companies and residential buildings in Nazarovo.

The equipment of Nazarovo GRES includes 6 power generating units 135 MW each and one 400 MW power generating unit, 12 boilers with the capacity of 250 t/h each and 2 boilers with the capacity of 650 t/h each.

The station mainly operates in the condensation mode, producing mostly electric power; however it can also work in the heating mode. It uses brown coal from Nazarovo open-pit mine located 5 km from the station as its main fuel.
